Wichita's Littlest Heroes was created in March of 2013 when Founder and CEO, Brianna Coffey's 4 year old son, Tristan, was diagnosed with a life threatening auto immune disease. Feeling overwhelmed and alone, Brianna and Tristan met another mother and son in similar circumstances and the boy and moms formed instant friendships because of the struggles they both faced. Brianna knew that there must be other children and parents in the Wichita area who were in the same situation yet she was unable to locate any kind of group that supported very sick children and their caregiving parents as they fought these diseases. So, she started one! Wichita's Littlest Heroes began to grow immediately. Currently we are advocating for and providing emotional and physical support for more than 140 local children with more than 50 different diagnoses and their families. Wichita's Littlest Heroes focuses on education of the families, and the medical and lay community; advocacy and support for the children and their families and helping the family to identify and find appropriate resources. Children come to us by referral and receive a hero packet welcoming them that includes a cape, hero t shirt, bumper sticker, and membership to the Botanica Gardens. We strive to create relationships between the families and children through monthly fun, free, family events and the private parents only Facebook page where parents can connect with us and with each other for helpful tips, a quick laugh or encouragement, a chance to let down a bit and even get a shoulder to cry on when they need it.
