South Sudan gained independence from Sudan on July 9, 2011 as the outcome of a 2005 agreement that ended Africa's longest-running civil war. Made up of the 10 southern-most states of Sudan, South Sudan is one of the most diverse countries in Africa. It is home to over 60 different major ethnic groups, and the majority of its people are non-Christian. Independence did not bring conflict in South Sudan to an end. The 2013-2015 civil war displaced 2.2 million people and threatened the success of one of the world's newest countries. The war erupted once again in mid-2016 and has displaced more 2 million people with majority seeking refuge in Uganda. However a large population cannot move long distances, including children, expectant mothers, the elderly and the sick; besides the tension of the looming war, HUNGER is a daily reality and many have lost life due to starvation. As The Lulu Tree Foundation, we have been greatly touched by the hunger situation in the world's newest nation .We are standing with our Brothers and Sisters in both prayer and in provision, planning to send relief in form of Lulu Reusable Sanitary Towels, Lulu Mama Kits, maize flour and beans. Above all, we plan to get a church that we can partner with to deliver our relief resources. In doing this, we will be equipping the church with soul-winning resources and many will give their lives to Jesus and will be discipled by the pastors we partner with. The Lulu Tree foundation recently purchased 10 acres of land in Luwero central Uganda where we plan to plant maize and beans; all the produce will be delivered to South Sudan as First Fruit.
