Hello, Hope you and your family are safe and healthy. Indeed, this has been a challenging year for everyone. COVID-19 has kept us apart from the people we love and life we are accustomed to. It has endangered the health and wellness of us all and leaves us with great uncertainty for the future. Amidst this great uncertainty, we think about Erin's future. Where will she live? Who will support her? Will she be happy and taken care of? Will she have opportunity to live the fullest life possible with her peers? We are part of CCHI (Collaborative Community Housing Initiative) -- a grassroots, nonprofit organization comprised of 30 families (and growing) who all have young adults with special needs. CCHI is focused on creating housing opportunities for individuals with special needs, and has earned approval to develop a multifamily housing development in Highwood. This would be an inclusive community with 35% of the apartments reserved for those with special needs and the remainder for typical community members who work on the North Shore. Imagine people of all abilities living together in a place with communal spaces to hang out, share a meal, watch a movie, or create art and music in the building's studio! A place where everyone can feel welcome and at home. We are exploring the possibility of Erin living as part of this inclusive community with the provision of needed supports and services. I know you feel our uncertainty and share our concern for Erin's future.
